Cornelius Manz: Sandblasted Speeding Bent Billiard Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-831-0024
This is the first we've seen of Cornelius Mänz's "Speeding" forms. Indeed, there may not be another, but one can hope, because it's a fetching shape imbued with forward momentum. The lifting heel contributes to the undercurve of the shank and heel, which is almost subliminally interrupted by a low, subtle waistline. The shank is proportionately large in diameter, helping the impression of sporty sinuosity. As the mouthpiece is introduced, its base flares slightly for a more dramatic contrast with the flat saddle bit.
A traditional chestnut stain provides the consistent hue of the stummel, which is deftly sandblasted and circled by tight growth rings stacked up the forward-canted bowl. The rim is smooth, offering precise beveling around the tobacco chamber and terminating the implied acceleration of the composition in particularly attractive fashion.
