Dasha Florov: Partially Sandblasted Tomato with Bamboo
Product Number: 002-797-0003
So far what we've seen from Dasha Florov has been pretty classical, drawing heavily from the Danish and Japanese traditions to achieve a beautifully minimalist aesthetic overall. Among those classic forms, it's clear she possesses a particular penchant for rounded, spherical bowl shapes, paying careful attention to momentum and dynamism in profile by keeping the heel light and lifting. She's taken that approach one further here in this partially sandblasted Tomato, emphasizing the cheeking of the bowl to either flank by extending the partial sandblast past the transition and into the supple curvature of the bowl's aft. The stark contrast produced by the smooth, glossy bowl and the dark transition creates the illusion that the bowl itself is playfully perched atop a shank of briar and bamboo — driving home the more organic, Japanese theme at play. Stellar piece all around.
