David Huber: Sandblasted Blowfish (2518)
Product Number: 002-755-0031
One sign of an excellent craftsman is when he can sandblast a shape as complex and multi-faceted as the Blowfish and maintain crisp edges on all the ridge lines, as David Huber easily demonstrates here. The curved shank is small in comparison to the bowl, yet maintains huge personality with it's flaring aesthetic and sharp lines. The transition is deeply cut to maintain the steep angles of the bowl. The grain runs mainly on the vertical, which fits this shape perfectly. Broad curves rise on the bowl and then tuck quickly in for the rim, which is somewhat concave and chamfered on its inner ring. Asymmetry at its best is on unique display from every angle. Though the bowl is large and expansive, the piece as a whole is compact and fits the hand from both sides with character and comfort.- Chuck Stanion
