David Huber: Sandblasted Bent Apple (2818)
Product Number: 002-755-0032
This style of plumpness combined with sinuous grace is something we've seen quite a bit of from David Huber, and it's reminiscent of Vladimir Grechukhin's aesthetic of blending rotund muscularity with elegant lines. In this piece, we find a lithely bent stem and shank combination that flares into the transition behind a classic Apple bowl, rounded fore and aft and quite forward-urging, continuing the implied momentum of the shank and stem. Despite being affably plump in hand and in profile, the inherent movement within the piece lends it quite the dynamic stance — accentuated even more when view from the smoker's perspective, as the flanks are slightly pinched to add an even more streamlined disposition. Dressed in a glossy, dark, formal stain, the dynamic profile is allowed to shine in silhouette, all adorned in an incredibly well-textured sandblast.-Truett Smith
