David Huber: Smooth Horn (6518)
Product Number: 002-755-0036
David Huber seems to enjoy playing with a shifting sense of geometry, as many of his pieces seem to belie their true disposition when viewed in profile. As for this Horn shape, it appears to be perfectly conical at first glance, especially in photos. It's actually something a bit more oval-like, which I think allows for a more firm substance in hand, and likewise a bit more ergonomic comfort, too. Fittingly, it wears stacked lanes of cross-grain on each flank, with a tight valley of birdseye all along the underside, all highlighted by a warm walnut stain. As for the stem, it's a gently downturned saddle, making use of just enough negative space to lend some visual balance to the eager composition.- Daniel Bumgardner
