David Huber: Sandblasted Apple (5419)
Product Number: 002-755-0046
A compact nosewarmer from David Huber, this piece presents all the practical appeal of such a pocketable pipe, while also possessing the prowess and proficiency of a talented artisan carver. Under five inches in length, this is a piece worthy of on-the-go smoking, comfortably clenched and easily stowed when not. Sometimes pipes of a smaller stature can seem lost in hand, but Huber has done well to maintain a substantial, muscular presence with this Apple — the bowl affably plump and the elongated shank similar of stoutness. Impressively lightweight, it wears a matte finish and rustic sandblast, and such a combination makes me think that David intends for this pipe to a be workhorse smoker and travel companion — the low-gloss, rugged texture of the stummel able to hide any handling marks it picks up over the years. The chamfered rim is smooth-polished, however, ensuring that it doesn't lack in class and charm when needed.-Truett Smith
