Dirk Heinemann: Partially Sandblasted Horn
Product Number: 002-793-0004
This might be one of the most streamlined takes on the classic Horn shape I've ever come across. Seriously, Dirk's kept the bowl's cant so forward and the profile of the shank and stem so low, it nearly appears horizontal in profile — with just a touch of lift to the aft of the bowl and a hint of downward turn to the mouthpiece to maintain an active flow. Despite that striking silhouette, it's actually quite comfortable in hand, as Dirk's really emphasized the breadth in the cross-section, affording the thumb plenty of room to rest atop the shank. What's more, Dirk's compounded the composition's overall dynamism through the use of a dual finish. The craggy, extra dark sandblast of the underside works in perfect contrast to the smooth polished rim and top of the shank, lending even more visual weight to the lenticular lines flowing down either flank — all while highlighting some gorgeous grain to boot.
