Dirk Heinemann: Smooth Volcano with Bay Wood Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-793-0019
Typically, Volcanoes tend to fall into one of two camps: overtly organic or seriously streamlined. With this rendition however, Dirk Heinemann has effectively managed to stylistically fuse both of these dispositions into a single, seemingly effortless showcase of shaping skill. Up front, the forward-inclined bowl exhibits a gentle, concave sense of taper from the rim, leading the eye to a broad convex base bolstering the entirety of the composition in profile. From the elongated transition, Dirk lent the shank the subtle impression of ridge work, serving to emphasize the upward-curve and reinforce its implied momentum. Finished in a warm, walnut treatment paired to a broad mount of bay wood, it's a delightful offering from the German carver.
