Dirk Heinemann: Sandblasted Standing Fig with Plum Wood and Juma Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-793-0020
I always quite enjoy seeing how carvers handle the spur-like feet of Fig renditions. In its original fruition, Adam Davidson's shape is not intended to be a sitter, as the spur is somewhat rounded in profile, serving to evoke the look of traditional clay Cutty tavern pipes, albeit decidedly different. Here, with this Standing Fig, Dirk Heinemann has combined the trail of shank and implied spur into one singular region, making for a solid, firm foundation upon which its broad, slightly plump bowl and strongly-flaring, poised shank rest sturdily. Dirk opted to finish this fellow in a warm, virgin sandblast, complemented splendidly by a smooth-polished mount of plum wood and a stem of pale-white juma. Awesome stuff.
