Dirk Heinemann: Sandblasted Bent Dublin
Product Number: 002-793-0028
This bent Dublin is one of Dirk Hienemann's more classically inclined shape chart standards, as opposed to the bulbous Tomatoes and Fish iterations that also permeate the German carver's portfolio. Fitting into his overall style, this piece caters toward the Danish school in its lifted heel, easy transition, and ever-so-slightly inflated rim. The slight downward turn of the stem, flowing shank, and forward-canted bowl all lend the profile a strong Zulu-like disposition, marked by an ever sinuous nature and rushing sense of momentum. Fitting to this, the shank is slightly pinched, adding further sleekness in profile, and though the tall bowl dominates the silhouette and houses a deep chamber, the piece as a whole remains surprisingly lightweight. It makes for an easily clenched smoker, and the color palette couldn't be more classy as Dirk has paired the subtle, glossy texture of the dark-stained, Danish-style sandblast to a striated stem of warm cumberland to match the smooth-finished hue of the chamfered, innermost section of the rim.-Truett Smith
