Dirk Heinemann: Sandblasted Bent Egg with Bamboo Ring
Product Number: 002-793-0034
The shaping style of this bent Egg's bowl is something we've seen before from Dirk Heinemann, the rounded, tapering form marked by a more defined waistline than other iterations. The design cue serves both to accentuate the form's plumpness while also highlighted the profile's forward cant. It's a dynamic and fluid piece, initiated by the stem's slight downward turn and shank's upward curl. Like many other pieces within the German carver's portfolio, this is a compact pipe, slipping easily into a pocket and encouraging hands free clenching with its light weight, yet it fits neatly in hand, thanks to the aforementioned, bulging waistline and forward inclination. Tasteful of presentation, it's dressed here in an extra-low-depth sandblast and is dark-stained, allowing the chamfered, smooth-polished, and auburn-hued rim to accent the rounded ring of bamboo at the shank end. Said bamboo has been cut and polished like that of a hardwood accent, but with the grain texture of bamboo, and it's also been shaped so that the stem base sits within the bamboo, further integrating the stem into the composition.-Truett Smith
