Dirk Heinemann: Partially Sandblasted Cuban Reverse Calabash
Product Number: 002-793-0037
Dirk Heinemann's Cuban design combines reverse Calabash engineering with a cigar-like smoking posture, not unlike the German carver's Tuban shape. The stummel itself forgoes any traditional semblance of bowl or shank, instead emulating the silhouette of a stout Torpedo cigar — the chamber pitched almost completely horizontal. The bent stem allows for a more natural smoking posture and also keeps the chamber elevated enough to ensure none of its contents spill out. Such a cigar-like aesthetic fits with the Cuban name and likens it to Dirk's other Cigar-inspired shape, the Tuban; however, the Cuban differs in one noticeable aspect, apart from the reverse Calabash cooling chamber at the mortise: The Cuban features a carved channel across its midsection, shaped for optimal ergonomics and allowing the pipe to be held similar to how one would pinch a cigar. In this rendition, that carved channel is finished smooth for maximum comfort and handsome contrast against the rest of stummel's dark-stained sandblast. A highly creative and compact design, this Cuban by Dirk Heinemann is ideal for quick, on-the-go smoking sessions.-Truett Smith
