Dirk Heinemann: Sandblasted Grainbug Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-793-0048
A signature design from Dirk Heinemann, the Grainbug is a roly-poly Freehand form of compact dimensions and irresistibly chubby proportions. The shape is characterized by a forward-arching posture, the entire profile emulating the look of an arced slinky or, perhaps more appropriate, an inch worm in mid stride. The shank drops below the stem, terminating at a flattened foot, and the bowl's forward echoes that theme being also flattened but at an angle different from that of the shank face. The Grainbug actually shares similar aspects to another of the German carver's signature designs: the Architect. However, while the Architect presents a more rigid and angular disposition, the Grainbug offers more curvaceous and organic charm — as if the Architect's bowl were more rounded and the shank curled downward instead of continuing into the stem's gradual taper. Such creative distinction testifies to Dirk's playful sense of style and diverse aesthetic, and this particular Grainbug is further commended by a low-profile sandblast, dark-stained to draw focus to the smooth-polished, neatly chamfered rim.
