Dirk Heinemann: Sandblasted Architect with Oakwood Tobacco Pipe

Product Number: 002-793-0057

Dirk Heinemann offers a wide variety of designs in his portfolio, often crafting highly original pieces that push the boundaries of shaping and pipe making aesthetics as a whole. He can just as easily craft a flowing, bent Egg, but his original designs are just as stimulating, if not more so. This distinctive Freehand from the German carver showcases his rich style. Rightfully named the Architect, due to its flattened top and firm line work, rendering a rather dynamic shape, this piece comes in under four inches in length, making it a compact and travel-friendly pipe that should slip into a pocket quite well.

Foregoing traditional shaping cues, the stummel appears as a unified whole, with the shank and bowl having no clear demarcation. A flattened, pronounced heel juts from the base of the bowl and enables the piece to sit sturdily all on its own, an ideal trait for a desk pipe. The crisp, low-profile sandblast that dresses the stummel draws out handsome bands of growth rings that stack up the bowl and accentuates its shape. Lightening up the shadowy profile of the piece is an accent band of Oakwood at the shank end before the broad, tapered stem of jet-black vulcanite tops everything off. Unsurprising given its size, this piece fits quite easily in hand, boasting a lightweight and agile disposition sure to delight any collector.
