Dirk Heinemann: Sandblasted Horn Tobacco Pipe

Product Number: 002-793-0059

German pipe artisan Dirk Heinemann's pipes fall into two broad categories: sculptural, exacting renditions of classic pipe shapes, and his own inventive signature designs. This Horn fits right into the former part of his exemplary portfolio, but with its own unique nuances, displaying an abbreviated, extra-broad profile and crisp ridgelines running up the flanks. The design is imminently comfortable in hand, the continuous curve of the underside resting in palm while the negative space atop the shank invites draping of a digit. The stubby saddle stem keeps the pipe in pocket-friendly dimensions, which, when considered in concert with the stout design, promises great potential as a travel pipe.

Dirk has shaped expertly to the briar's grain, directing rippled striations through the pipe from above to culminate in a field of blasted birdseye that covers the entire underside, while undulating growth rings surge across the broad rim. A dark mahogany stain commends the stimulating texture, while a smooth chamfered section at the rim's inner edge lends a pleasing contrast. Finally, the sleek, hand-cut vulcanite saddle stem unifies the profile while turning down just slightly to offer a comfortable smoking position.
