Dirk Heinemann: Smooth Acorn with Spalted Birch Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-793-0099
While Dirk Heinemann is known for his experimental style and distinctive approach to pipe making, the German artisan never loses sight of the functionality and engineering required to make a pipe truly excel. This Acorn is a bit more reserved than what we're used to seeing from Heinemann, but it nevertheless showcases his aptitude for flowing lines, supple curves, and rich finishes.
Measuring less than five inches long, this Acorn boasts a compact profile and an appropriately light weight, but it's visually quite dense, with a wealth of musculature evident throughout the stummel. Up front, a supple bowl stands atop a conservative, gently lifted heel and grows trim walls that flare to a broad, subtly domed rim. As the bowl flares, it takes on a forward cant that draws and imbues the fore of the composition with an active, dynamic posture. A wide transition follows the bowl and gives way to a thick shank that flares outward to a broad, teardrop-like face. Said face is accented with a band of splated birch, the hardwood's rich hues complementing the stummel's finish. A glossy polish and a warm stain dress the ensemble and highlight impressive flame grain across the briar's surface.
