Il Duca: Sandblasted Bent Apple with Boxwood (B)
Product Number: 002-427-0538
Affable and compressed, this bent Apple from Max Rimensi of Il Duca reflects the Italian carver's penchant for crafting muscular, compact pieces. A plump, slightly forward-ebbing bowl with a lifting heel promotes a dynamic disposition up front, with the gradually lifting, triangular shank displaying a dramatic flare at the end. This piece wears the artisan's recognizable rustic sandblast with its ochre-hued contrast stain, highlighting handsome horizontal grain, while a pale accent of boxwood at the shank end further accentuates the earthy color palette. Topped by a jet-black, vulcanite stem shaped for premium smoking comfort, this pipe is appreciatively full-bodied in hand and adroitly reflects Rimensi's shaping and finishing skills.-Angela Robertson
