Max Rimensi's classics are always eye-catching, their execution on par with any elegant, modern piece the Il Duca carver might produce, while still maintaining that old-school air that has endeared these pieces to so many pipe smokers. This Billiard is a beautiful example, its pencil shank and elegantly tapered lavender and black brindled stem giving it a streamlined, almost aerodynamic profile. The tall, Apple-like bowl has just the right amount of taper from base to rim to note a touch of softening Danish influence, with the low-set transition accentuating the plump bowl's height. It's finished in one of the artisan's bespoke, extra-dark sandblasts, highlighting rippling stacks of ring grain for a handsome pipe of striking appeal.
