Il Duca: Sandblasted Hawkbill (B) Tobacco Pipe

Max Rimensi's particular style of pipe making is often hard to define in one simple term since the Italian carver's versatility and artistry allows him to move easily from one design school to another. Classic shapes, organic designs, and eclectic pieces are all part of his portfolio and all are pointedly functional and superbly engineered.

Something of a rarity for Rimensi, the Hawkbill makes few appearances in the artisan's portfolio, making this example of particular interest to fans of this shape and Rimensi's style. A deftly balanced piece, this pipe places a thick-walled, curvaceous bowl at the fore of the Hawkbill's signature arcing shank, creating a lightweight but substantial design that rests comfortably in hand and when clenched. The Barone-grade stummel is dressed in Rimensi's signature two-tone sandblast, excavating a wealth of fine texture in inky black hues, with the auburn rim adding a handsome contrast.
