Il Duca pipes are handmade in Italy by Max Rimensi, the name "Il Duca" honoring the historic rulers of his hometown Ferrara. This Tomato rendition beautifully showcases Rimensi's elegant and sleek shaping style, as well as his affinity for and proficiency with morta.
Rimensi's morta pipes are nearly as common as his briar renditions, and the Italian artisan is quite adept at fashioning pipes from the material that can be quite cumbersome to work with. This Tomato sees the dense bog oak rendered in a rounded, muscular form but with an elongated design that makes the overall shape seem quite slender. The stummel's sandblast showcases the morta's unique grain patterns, and a generous horn accent is the perfect contrast for a stark, black-and-white color palette.
