Dunhill: Shell Briar (4144) (2018)

Product Number: 002-015-3964

Defined by a cylindrical, Poker-like bowl and lack of shank, Dunhill's "44" Duke design features an elongated shank and mouthpiece combination that fit directly into the lower bowl via mount-style configuration. One of Dunhill's more eccentric styles from their standard shape chart, this is a highly collectible offering, accented here with a smooth, ruby-stained rim to contrast the Shell Briar's sandblast.

The Shell Briar's addition to the Dunhill catalog was a pivotal moment in pipesmoking history. Before 1917, pipes with sandblasted finishes had never been made, and Alfred Dunhill's innovative mind created arguably the most popular finish for pipes today when he unveiled the Shell Briar. With its dark, reserved color palette and delightful texture, it's no surprise that it's still wildly popular over a century later.
