Dunhill: Dress with Silver Army Mounted (3122) (2017)
Product Number: 002-015-4001
Since it's origination in 1973, the venerable Dunhill Dress has never been varnished. It's a painfully laborious staining process to achieve the jet black color, required many, many coats of a dark, dark green stain to achieve the effect (green?! yeah, that was my reaction too, but apparently that achieves the best results). All this work yields an impressive result: striking, elegant and paired beautifully with sterling silver, which comes standard on all Dress series pipes.
One of the most fashionable finishes in all of pipemaking and one that inspired an entire aesthetic, Dunhill's Dress finish was first introduced in 1973 meant to elegantly complement a tuxedo or similar formal wear, perfect for a night on the town. Characterized by its glossy, jet-black stain and sterling silver accent band, the Dress finish exudes class and imbues each pipe it adorns with a sense of refinement and sophistication. It's the progenitor of the term "dress pipe," now used to reference any black-and-silver pipe, and is one of the most distinctive finishes in all of pipedom.- Sykes Wilford
