Dunhill: Root Briar (1110) (2019)
Product Number: 002-015-4074
Dunhill's "10" shape is a quintessential Liverpool, the shank neatly elongated and paired to a short tapered stem, separating it from the saddle-stemmed Lovat and keeping the form extra sleek and streamlined. Perfectly proportioned, this piece could easily fit into any Group size based solely on the pictures; however, this particular offering is a diminutive Group 1, remaining lightweight, compact, and easily clenched. Such a smaller size makes for an understated form, yet the immaculate Root Briar finish draws attention like a briar three times this size: The vivid, natural stain showcases streaking tendrils of straight grain across the bowl, testifying to the quality of the briar which is free of blemishes.
The highest honor for a Dunhill pipe is to receive the prestigious Root Briar appellation. Root Briars have been coveted by pipesmokers ever since they first debuted in 1931, due to the fact that each pipe must boast briar completely free of even the most minor of blemishes. Dunhill has the strictest of standards and expectations for quality with all of their pipes, and so any block of briar that comes to bear the Root Briar stamp must indeed be superlative.-Truett Smith
