Dunhill: Cumberland Quaint Bent Billiard Sitter (5) (2018)

Product Number: 002-015-4085

Dunhill's Quaint offerings present designs that don't easily fit into the English marque's conventional shape chart, yet even within this line, the degree of uniqueness can vary. For example, this bent Billiard is a fairly standard take on the classic shape, albeit it a bit longer than Dunhill's "02." That said, what makes this Group 5 piece most special, is the flattened panel at the bowl's lower fore, enabling the piece to sit sturdily upright on a flat surface. For collectors interested in the utility of a desk pipe combined with the comfort of a demi-Churchwarden stem, this Cumberland Quaint fits that rare combination beautifully.

When Alfred Dunhill released his patented Shell Briar, he forever changed the pipe smoking world at large. Dunhill has often been credited with being the first to offer sandblasted pipes (arguably the most popular finish today), and the Cumberland finish further displayed Dunhill's innovative spirit. Well received after its release in 1979, the Cumberland series was named for the English marque's warehouse on Cumberland road, and the line's signature, brindled vulcanite stem became so iconic, the warmly striated material is now referred to simply as "cumberland."
