Dunhill: Cumberland Quaint Bent Billiard Sitter (5) (2019)
Product Number: 002-015-4129
Dunhill's shape chart is extensive, but sometimes they drift from its restrictions into Quaint territory, as with this Billiard Sitter. Although it's a fairly standard Group 5 Dunhill Billiard, obviously there's some extra length in the stem for those occasions when standard shapes just aren't quite long enough. additionally, this piece has a flattened panel on the far heel and bowl upon which the pipe balances nicely. You don't see many sitters with this kind of length.
When Alfred Dunhill released his patented Shell Briar, he forever changed the pipe smoking world at large. Dunhill has often been credited with being the first to offer sandblasted pipes (arguably the most popular finish today), and the Cumberland finish further displayed Dunhill's innovative spirit. Well received after its release in 1979, the Cumberland series was named for the English marque's warehouse on Cumberland road, and the line's signature, brindled vulcanite stem became so iconic, the warmly striated material is now referred to simply as "cumberland."- Chuck Stanion
