Dunhill: Bruyere Quaint Bent Billiard (3) (2018)
Product Number: 002-015-4143
Dunhill's Quaint series promotes shapes not on the English marque's traditional shape chart. It allows for some variance in Dunhill's portfolio without the need to add more and more shape numbers and shows off the company's more creative side. This particular Quaint is noticeably reserved, displaying a slight bend and traditional, canted Billiard bowl. The softer style of heel and elegant curves lend this piece a Danish look compared to Dunhill's typically more austere, English aesthetic, all dressed in the ruby Bruyere finish.
The Bruyere was Alfred Dunhill's original finish upon launching his brand of premium pipes and smoking accessories and was the only Dunhill finish from 1910 until 1917. Even after the addition of other finishes, the Bruyere maintained a high level of popularity, becoming synonymous with what is thought of, even today, as the quintessential pipe. To achieve the iconic, ruby hue and saturation, a skilled craftsman painstakingly layers particular stains in a precise manner, then meticulously polishes the pipe to a high luster. The final result is, simply put, timeless.-Truett Smith
