Dunhill: Bruyere Quaint Billiard (3) (2018)

Product Number: 002-015-4144

Dunhill's Quaint line is reserved for more unique pieces that don't fit into the English marque's standard shape chart. Take this Group 3 Billiard for example, while many may see it as closely resembling Dunhill's saddle-stemmed Billiard, the "3203," there are some noticeable differences. The Billiard bowl still fits the requirements to be considered such, however it doesn't really conform to Dunhill's iconic Billiard silhouette, having an abbreviated height and more "plumpness" in the mid to lower bowl — these factors bring Pot and Apple elements to the overall shape, albeit in subtle degrees.

The Bruyere was Alfred Dunhill's original finish upon launching his brand of premium pipes and smoking accessories and was the only Dunhill finish from 1910 until 1917. Even after the addition of other finishes, the Bruyere maintained a high level of popularity, becoming synonymous with what is thought of, even today, as the quintessential pipe. To achieve the iconic, ruby hue and saturation, a skilled craftsman painstakingly layers particular stains in a precise manner, then meticulously polishes the pipe to a high luster. The final result is, simply put, timeless.
