Dunhill: Bruyere Quaint Billiard (3) (2018)

Product Number: 002-015-4145

Dunhill's Quaint line is reserved for more unique pieces that don't fit into the English marque's standard shape chart. While many may see this Group 3 Billiard as closely resembling Dunhill's standard "03" Billiard, there are some subtle differences. The Billiard bowl still fits the requirements to be considered such, however, it's more rigid and almost cylindrical, like that of a Poker. Adding to that, the shank and stem combination are more streamlined, altering the proportions of this piece compared to the White Spot's typical Billiard — such differences may seem minuscule, but a classic maker like Dunhill maintains strict shaping standards regarding such variances in proportion, making this still a traditional Billiard, just not Dunhill's "03."

The Bruyere was Alfred Dunhill's original finish upon launching his brand of premium pipes and smoking accessories and was the only Dunhill finish from 1910 until 1917. Even after the addition of other finishes, the Bruyere maintained a high level of popularity, becoming synonymous with what is thought of, even today, as the quintessential pipe. To achieve the iconic, ruby hue and saturation, a skilled craftsman painstakingly layers particular stains in a precise manner, then meticulously polishes the pipe to a high luster. The final result is, simply put, timeless.
