Dunhill: Cumberland (4603) (2019)
Product Number: 002-015-4191
Curving ever so winsomely and far from the bowl, this "03" from the White Spot reveals all the classic lines expected from the revered English firm. A slightly forward-inclined heel provides a bit of visual momentum, and the gentle curvature of the bowl is as traditional as a pocket watch. In a nicely dimensioned Group 4, this long pipe will offer long smokes at your convenience.
When Alfred Dunhill released his patented Shell Briar, he forever changed the pipe smoking world at large. Dunhill has often been credited with being the first to offer sandblasted pipes (arguably the most popular finish today), and the Cumberland finish further displayed Dunhill's innovative spirit. Well received after its release in 1979, the Cumberland series was named for the English marque's warehouse on Cumberland road, and the line's signature, brindled vulcanite stem became so iconic, the warmly striated material is now referred to simply as "cumberland."- Chuck Stanion
