Dunhill: Cumberland Quaint Belge (2) (2018) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-015-4195
While the Belge is a vintage shape, dating back to when pipes were fashioned from clay, not briar, the design does not hold a place on Dunhill's shape chart. Thus, it's a perfect piece for the Quaint line which offers designs not defined by the English marque's shape numbers. This one is presented in Group 2 size, the Egg-like bowl poised at a forward cant on the end of a slender shank and stem combination for quite the svelte, elegant aesthetic.
When Alfred Dunhill released his patented Shell Briar, he forever changed the pipe smoking world at large. Dunhill has often been credited with being the first to offer sandblasted pipes (arguably the most popular finish today), and the Cumberland finish further displayed Dunhill's innovative spirit. Well received after its release in 1979, the Cumberland series was named for the English marque's warehouse on Cumberland road, and the line's signature, brindled vulcanite stem became so iconic, the warmly striated material is now referred to simply as "cumberland."-Truett Smith
