Dunhill: Bruyere with Horn (6105) (2018)
Product Number: 002-015-4209
Dunhill's "05" Dublin is seen here rendered in robust Group 6 proportions, offering a substantial feel in hand and plenty of chamber depth inside. However, what really sets this offering apart from past examples are the eight neat, architectural panels that surround the bowl. Typically, other than traditional Foursquares or panel-shanked numbers, pieces like this would primarily be found in the marque's Quaint series, a line devoted to pipes that fall outside of Dunhill's standard shape chart. This remarkable piece is made even more aesthetically striking through the addition of a horn mount, with its creamy color and dark undertones pairing beautifully with the alluring, rich Bruyere stain.
The Bruyere was Alfred Dunhill's original finish upon launching his brand of premium pipes and smoking accessories and was the only Dunhill finish from 1910 until 1917. Even after the addition of other finishes, the Bruyere maintained a high level of popularity, becoming synonymous with what is thought of, even today, as the quintessential pipe. To achieve the iconic, ruby hue and saturation, a skilled craftsman painstakingly layers particular stains in a precise manner, then meticulously polishes the pipe to a high luster. The final result is, simply put, timeless.- Jeffery Sitts
