Dunhill: Bruyere (3104) (2018)
Product Number: 002-015-4211
One might be surprised to find such a unique looking Dunhill not designated to their Quaint line of non-standard designs. That said, however, this overall silhouette is in line with the English marque's traditional "04" Bulldog, just the upper bowl having been lent a special treatment to resemble a beehive. In fact, it's a design that dates back to old Dunhill catalogs, seen there as the "UT" shape — quite the find for the serious collector, presented here as a Group 3 and wearing the iconic Bruyere finish.
The Bruyere was Alfred Dunhill's original finish upon launching his brand of premium pipes and smoking accessories and was the only Dunhill finish from 1910 until 1917. Even after the addition of other finishes, the Bruyere maintained a high level of popularity, becoming synonymous with what is thought of, even today, as the quintessential pipe. To achieve the iconic, ruby hue and saturation, a skilled craftsman painstakingly layers particular stains in a precise manner, then meticulously polishes the pipe to a high luster. The final result is, simply put, timeless.-Truett Smith
