Dunhill: Bruyere (1103) (2018)

Product Number: 002-015-4213

Dunhill is well renowned for their shaping, their pipe chart standards setting a precedent for classic shaping cues and proportions — the English marque's pieces representing the archetypal standard by which many collectors define certain shapes. Such well balanced proportions, then, make it difficult often times to discern a pipe's overall size only by the pictures. For example, this version of the iconic "03" Billiard could easily pass for a Group 4 by the photo. It is, however, a petite Group 1 size, presenting less than five inches of total length, but boasting plenty of traditional charm in the vintage Bruyere finish.

The Bruyere was Alfred Dunhill's original finish upon launching his brand of premium pipes and smoking accessories and was the only Dunhill finish from 1910 until 1917. Even after the addition of other finishes, the Bruyere maintained a high level of popularity, becoming synonymous with what is thought of, even today, as the quintessential pipe. To achieve the iconic, ruby hue and saturation, a skilled craftsman painstakingly layers particular stains in a precise manner, then meticulously polishes the pipe to a high luster. The final result is, simply put, timeless.
