Dunhill: Bruyere with Horn (5122) (2018)
Product Number: 002-015-4214
While Dunhill's "22" Poker is incredibly traditional, maintaining the classic elements of cylindrical bowl and flattened heel, it differs from many other pipemakers' renditions in that the transition is not significantly raised above the heel. It still sits sturdily upright, but draws more focus to the bowl for a firm, stolid presence. That's especially so in the case of this tall, Group 5 offering, a creamy mount of horn accenting the deep ruby tones of the Bruyere finish.
The Bruyere was Alfred Dunhill's original finish upon launching his brand of premium pipes and smoking accessories and was the only Dunhill finish from 1910 until 1917. Even after the addition of other finishes, the Bruyere maintained a high level of popularity, becoming synonymous with what is thought of, even today, as the quintessential pipe. To achieve the iconic, ruby hue and saturation, a skilled craftsman painstakingly layers particular stains in a precise manner, then meticulously polishes the pipe to a high luster. The final result is, simply put, timeless.-Truett Smith
