Dunhill: Shell Briar (3203) (2018)

Product Number: 002-015-4235

Based on the old "US" Quaint shape, this "03" Billiard from Dunhill bears a unique "beehive" texture around its upper bowl — also seen on the "UT" design. A coiled-style of rustication, it breaks up the shape's lines for a highly individual rendition of the classic form, separating it from other "03" iterations. A Group 3 number, it remains conveniently sized and lightweight, the shank and stem marked by a sleek, streamlined disposition.

The Shell Briar's addition to the Dunhill catalog was a pivotal moment in pipesmoking history. Before 1917, pipes with sandblasted finishes had never been made, and Alfred Dunhill's innovative mind created arguably the most popular finish for pipes today when he unveiled the Shell Briar. With its dark, reserved color palette and delightful texture, it's no surprise that it's still wildly popular over a century later.
