Dunhill: Shell Briar with Silver (3107) (2019)
Product Number: 002-015-4241
I'm a big fan of the Prince shape, and few do the design better than Dunhill. Whether bent or straight, it's a shape chart standard that exudes class and elegance, with the streamlined, elongated shank and stem combination paired to the squat, bulbous bowl perched on the end. This straight Group 3 rendition adds a firm, streamlined touch, compared to its slightly bent variant, the austere form matched by the band of sterling silver and the dark Shell Briar finish.
The Shell Briar's addition to the Dunhill catalog was a pivotal moment in pipesmoking history. Before 1917, pipes with sandblasted finishes had never been made, and Alfred Dunhill's innovative mind created arguably the most popular finish for pipes today when he unveiled the Shell Briar. With its dark, reserved color palette and delightful texture, it's no surprise that it's still wildly popular over a century later.-Truett Smith
