Dunhill: Zodiac Pipe 2015 Cumberland with Silver (4105) (178/388)
Product Number: 002-015-4264
Every year, starting from 2011, Dunhill has released a Zodiac Pipe in honor of the Chinese New Year, each one featuring the motif of that year's animal. 2015 was the Year of the Sheep, so Dunhill decorated this "05" Dublin with a sterling silver band emblazoned with said animal. It's serialized out of 388 pieces, with this one being #178, but as the number four is unlucky is Chinese tradition, any number with that digit has been omitted, making for only 313 total pipes made.
When Alfred Dunhill released his patented Shell Briar, he forever changed the pipe smoking world at large. Dunhill has often been credited with being the first to offer sandblasted pipes (arguably the most popular finish today), and the Cumberland finish further displayed Dunhill's innovative spirit. Well received after its release in 1979, the Cumberland series was named for the English marque's warehouse on Cumberland road, and the line's signature, brindled vulcanite stem became so iconic, the warmly striated material is now referred to simply as "cumberland."-Truett Smith
