Dunhill: Shell Briar (4102) (2019)
Product Number: 002-015-4273
One of the most iconic pipe designs, the bent Billiard has been a mainstay on the classic shape chart since pipes first started being carved from briar. Dunhill is known for its traditional realization of classics, and for many collectors and pipesmokers, the English marque's "02" bent Billiard is considered the archetypal rendition to which all others are compared. Here, in Group 4 size, it's fit for any occasion — fitting easily in hand while also comfortably clenched hands free.
The Shell Briar's addition to the Dunhill catalog was a pivotal moment in pipesmoking history. Before 1917, pipes with sandblasted finishes had never been made, and Alfred Dunhill's innovative mind created arguably the most popular finish for pipes today when he unveiled the Shell Briar. With its dark, reserved color palette and delightful texture, it's no surprise that it's still wildly popular over a century later.-Truett Smith
