Dunhill: Bruyere (1206) (2018)
Product Number: 002-015-4289
Dunhill's "06" is the epitome of the classic English Pot, presented here in petite Group 1 proportions. It still adheres to the archetypal form with the squat bowl emphasizing its breadth over height. While the "06" has been paired to tapered stems and gently bent ones, it's the saddle stem variants the draws my attention the most. Part of the reason why is that it's relatively uncommon to see such a combination, even more so as a Group 1 that's then paired to a lengthy vulcanite mouthpiece. And to see it finished in the iconic Bruyere stain really seals the deal for me and should easily please any devoted Dunhill collector or smokers who prefer pipes on the diminutive end of size spectrum.
The Bruyere was Alfred Dunhill's original finish upon launching his brand of premium pipes and smoking accessories and was the only Dunhill finish from 1910 until 1917. Even after the addition of other finishes, the Bruyere maintained a high level of popularity, becoming synonymous with what is thought of, even today, as the quintessential pipe. To achieve the iconic, ruby hue and saturation, a skilled craftsman painstakingly layers particular stains in a precise manner, then meticulously polishes the pipe to a high luster. The final result is, simply put, timeless.- Jeffery Sitts
