Dunhill: Bruyere (2113) (2017)
Product Number: 002-015-4294
Were it not for the presence of a standard Dunhill shape-code on this pipe, I would have assumed this was a Quaint. It would have been an easy mistake to make since A) we've only very, very rarely seen the Group 2 version of the "13" shape, and B) it does change quite a bit in Group 2 size. In terms of the latter, how it changes is that aside from getting overall smaller, the bowl gets much shorter, effectively turning the design into a Pot. Such rare shape, size, and finish combinations has drawn collectors to Dunhill for decades, with this particular offering wearing the ever-classic Bruyere stain.
The Bruyere was Alfred Dunhill's original finish upon launching his brand of premium pipes and smoking accessories and was the only Dunhill finish from 1910 until 1917. Even after the addition of other finishes, the Bruyere maintained a high level of popularity, becoming synonymous with what is thought of, even today, as the quintessential pipe. To achieve the iconic, ruby hue and saturation, a skilled craftsman painstakingly layers particular stains in a precise manner, then meticulously polishes the pipe to a high luster. The final result is, simply put, timeless.- Chuck Stanion
