Dunhill: Bruyere (5111) (2019)
Product Number: 002-015-4296
A Group 5 rendition of the English marque's archetypal Lovat, this piece boasts robust proportions through the elongated shank, matching that of the bowl, and displaying the handsome shaping that has helped make Dunhill the recognized, revered, and collected brand it is today. For those interested in larger iterations of the brand's iconic shapes, this is a must-have, especially as this Group 5 designation and shape combination is considerably rare among Dunhill's portfolio compared to Group 3 and 4 renditions.
The Bruyere was Alfred Dunhill's original finish upon launching his brand of premium pipes and smoking accessories and was the only Dunhill finish from 1910 until 1917. Even after the addition of other finishes, the Bruyere maintained a high level of popularity, becoming synonymous with what is thought of, even today, as the quintessential pipe. To achieve the iconic, ruby hue and saturation, a skilled craftsman painstakingly layers particular stains in a precise manner, then meticulously polishes the pipe to a high luster. The final result is, simply put, timeless.-Truett Smith
