Dunhill: Bruyere Quaint Bent Dublin with Silver (2) (2019)
Product Number: 002-015-4337
The Quaint line from Dunhill features designs that don't align with the English marque's standard shape chart. On that chart, the "14" is Dunhill's traditional bent Dublin, but here the form has been rendered more Belge-like — the bowl slender and forward canted, and the stem elongated and slightly downward-turned. It makes for quite the svelte and elegant profile, further commended by the sterling silver band that contrasts against the Bruyere's rich ruby tones.
The Bruyere was Alfred Dunhill's original finish upon launching his brand of premium pipes and smoking accessories and was the only Dunhill finish from 1910 until 1917. Even after the addition of other finishes, the Bruyere maintained a high level of popularity, becoming synonymous with what is thought of, even today, as the quintessential pipe. To achieve the iconic, ruby hue and saturation, a skilled craftsman painstakingly layers particular stains in a precise manner, then meticulously polishes the pipe to a high luster. The final result is, simply put, timeless.-Truett Smith
