Dunhill: Shell Briar (6108) (2018)
Product Number: 002-015-4366
Dunhill's "08" shape is typically presented as a bent Bulldog shape, and here it maintains the diamond shank, fitted with a military mount for the push-style mouthpiece, slenderizing the Bulldog qualities of the shape and rounding it with the tapering stem. Here we find the shape with a low-profile rendition of the Shell Briar sandblast emphasizing the visually enthralling growth rings meandering over the stummel.
The Shell Briar's addition to the Dunhill catalog was a pivotal moment in pipe smoking history. Before 1917, pipes with sandblasted finishes had never been made, and Alfred Dunhill's innovative mind created arguably the most popular finish for pipes today when he unveiled the Shell Briar. With its dark, reserved color palette and delightful texture, it's no surprise that it's still wildly popular over a century later.- Chuck Stanion
