Dunhill: Bruyere with Horn (3108) (2018)
Product Number: 002-015-4371
Horn is a rarer accent material from Dunhill compared to their use of sterling silver and, even, bamboo on the collectible "Whangee" pipes, and it's a rarer accent material within English pipemaking in general — the medium most often seen utilized by Danish pipemakers. It's showcased here, though, on this "08" bent Bulldog, the crisp lines of the diamond shank continuing through the horn mount before dropping suddenly to the slender, push-style mouthpiece.
The Bruyere was Alfred Dunhill's original finish upon launching his brand of premium pipes and smoking accessories and was the only Dunhill finish from 1910 until 1917. Even after the addition of other finishes, the Bruyere maintained a high level of popularity, becoming synonymous with what is thought of, even today, as the quintessential pipe. To achieve the iconic, ruby hue and saturation, a skilled craftsman painstakingly layers particular stains in a precise manner, then meticulously polishes the pipe to a high luster. The final result is, simply put, timeless.-Truett Smith
