Dunhill: Collector Ring Grain Bent Billiard with Horn (HT) (2019)

Product Number: 002-015-4406

Dunhill's Collector series features hand-carved pipes that are more individually designed compared to the English marque's numbered shape chart. The series represents Dunhill's more creative side, similar to the Quaint series, and benefits from an entirely handmade approach. Presented here is a lithe bent Billiard of deceptive proportions: The shaping is slender and trim, but the overall size is significant — akin to Dunhill's Group 6 or 800-series pipes. It's dressed in a stunning Ring Grain-worthy iteration of the Shell Briar sandblast and accented with a mount of genuine horn.

Having been lent the English marque's prestigious Ring Grain designation, this Dunhill piece wears a particularly choice iteration of the Shell Briar sandblast — displaying stunning waves of ring grain across the stummel. The Shell Briar's addition to the Dunhill catalog was a pivotal moment in pipe smoking history. Before 1917, pipes with sandblasted finishes had never been made, and Alfred Dunhill's innovative mind created arguably the most popular finish for pipes today when he unveiled the Shell Briar. With its dark, reserved color palette and delightful texture, it's no surprise that it's still wildly popular over a century later.
