Dunhill: Bruyere Quaint Belge with Silver (3) (2019)
Product Number: 002-015-4417
Dunhill doesn't designate a shape number for the old Belge design, meaning most of the English marque's renditions are found in the Quaint series — a line dedicated to pipes that are represented on the White Spot's shape chart. Elongated of stem and trim, this Group 3 iteration poses a streamlined stance, with the Egg-like bowl balanced in a forward cant. A slender band of sterling silver adds accented flash, combining handsomely with the Bruyere's deep, ruby stain.
The Bruyere was Alfred Dunhill's original finish upon launching his brand of premium pipes and smoking accessories and was the only Dunhill finish from 1910 until 1917. Even after the addition of other finishes, the Bruyere maintained a high level of popularity, becoming synonymous with what is thought of, even today, as the quintessential pipe. To achieve the iconic, ruby hue and saturation, a skilled craftsman painstakingly layers particular stains in a precise manner, then meticulously polishes the pipe to a high luster. The final result is, simply put, timeless.-Truett Smith
