Dunhill: Bruyere Quaint Belge (3) (2019)
Product Number: 002-015-4439
Dunhill doesn't feature the Belge on its standard, numbered shape chart, meaning most of the English marque's renditions of the age-old shape are found in the Quaint series — a line comprised of designs not found on the White Spot's classic pipe chart. Extra-sleek and especially slender through the shank and stem, the lines of the silhouette urge the eyes toward the bowl, poised dramatically at a forward cant. A Group 3 offering, this is a lightweight piece full of streamlined appeal and timeless tradition.
The Bruyere was Alfred Dunhill's original finish upon launching his brand of premium pipes and smoking accessories and was the only Dunhill finish from 1910 until 1917. Even after the addition of other finishes, the Bruyere maintained a high level of popularity, becoming synonymous with what is thought of, even today, as the quintessential pipe. To achieve the iconic, ruby hue and saturation, a skilled craftsman painstakingly layers particular stains in a precise manner, then meticulously polishes the pipe to a high luster. The final result is, simply put, timeless.-Truett Smith
