Dunhill: Cumberland Quaint Dublin (5) (2019)
Product Number: 002-015-4446
A fitting shape for Dunhill's Quaint series — a line devoted to pipes that don't conform exactly to the English marque's standard shape chart — this piece combines elements of the Poker and Dublin shapes for a striking silhouette. Flattened of base and cylindrical through the lower bowl, it sits sturdily, while the upper bowl flares dramatically into an inflated rim. Dressed in the Cumberland line's rustic sandblast and namesake stain, this piece presents a tasteful color palette and stunning texture.
When Alfred Dunhill released his patented Shell Briar, he forever changed the pipe smoking world at large. Dunhill has often been credited with being the first to offer sandblasted pipes (arguably the most popular finish today), and the Cumberland finish further displayed Dunhill's innovative spirit. Well received after its release in 1979, the Cumberland series was named for the English marque's warehouse on Cumberland road, and the line's signature, brindled vulcanite stem became so iconic, the warmly striated material is now referred to simply as "cumberland."-Truett Smith
