Dunhill: Cumberland with Silver (2109) (2018)
Product Number: 002-015-4453
For those who prefer more petite pipes but still enjoy the classic English style, Dunhill's Group 2 offerings fit the bill perfectly — they present enough chamber space for a variety of blends yet feature lightweight proportions, making them excellent travel pipes and hands-free smokers. Such is the case with this "09" Canadian. The reduced size adds even more sleekness to the elongated, oval shank, poising the Billiard bowl on the end. Though quite lengthy, it maintains a lightweight persona for comfortable clenching, here accented with regal sterling silver to contrast the rustic hues of the Cumberland line.
When Alfred Dunhill released his patented Shell Briar, he forever changed the pipe smoking world at large. Dunhill has often been credited with being the first to offer sandblasted pipes (arguably the most popular finish today), and the Cumberland finish further displayed Dunhill's innovative spirit. Well received after its release in 1979, the Cumberland series was named for the English marque's warehouse on Cumberland road, and the line's signature, brindled vulcanite stem became so iconic, the warmly striated material is now referred to simply as "cumberland."-Truett Smith
