Dunhill: Bruyere (3108) (2017)
Product Number: 002-015-4469
Dunhill's "08" bent Bulldog comes in two varieties, with either the diamond shank of a Bulldog or the Rhodesian's rounded one. The former is offered here for a classic, masculine style. In Group 3 proportions, the form is of convenient size, the squat bowl here marked by a pair of beadlines beneath the rim's taper. It wears the traditional color palette of the Bruyere finish, and the tapered stem does well to maintain the silhouette's lines compared to versions with mount configurations.
The Bruyere was Alfred Dunhill's original finish upon launching his brand of premium pipes and smoking accessories and was the only Dunhill finish from 1910 until 1917. Even after the addition of other finishes, the Bruyere maintained a high level of popularity, becoming synonymous with what is thought of, even today, as the quintessential pipe. To achieve the iconic, ruby hue and saturation, a skilled craftsman painstakingly layers particular stains in a precise manner, then meticulously polishes the pipe to a high luster. The final result is, simply put, timeless.-Truett Smith
